For this startup enterprise search & discovery software developer, designed, created and managed all taxonomy-related content--including terms, manual and auto-generated synonyms, and training documents--as content components of the product. Made refinements based on sample search results.

  • Contributed to the search software Product Requirements Document and Functional Design Specifications
  • Developed metadata for taxonomy node tags (taxonomy name, fundamental type, node type, short description, long description, broader term, narrower term, associated term, named entity, entity’s parent, and latitude/longitude) and then also as tags within XML files for auto-categorization of content.
  • Identified and edited sample training documents for each taxonomy node.
  • Wrote taxonomy development policies and guidelines.
  • Tested user interface and made recommendations for enhancements.
  • Refined taxonomy synonyms and training documents to improve search relevancies.
  • Initiated partnerships with taxonomy vendors and third-party implementers.

Developed and improved controlled vocabulary used in database indexing to ensure indexing consistency. Identified and researched potential new terms, created cross-references, analyzed large subsets of the vocabulary, and made changes. Developed and documented indexing policies.

  • Developed hierarchy of over 2500 topics for a new online search interface, making document retrieval easier for school market. Worked with software developers on interface design. Managed participation of six remote editors.

Wrote two feature articles per week on business, economic, political, and social topics, totaling over 100 articles. Coordinated foreign language translation projects of business, legal, technical, and company-internal documents. Performed content audit of client web sites and intranets to develop the best categorization method and develop taxonomy terms. Created top-level taxonomies based on content analysis and stakeholder interviews.
